Cinema Zawya Trip for Yrs12, 13, 11 & 10 students (French) and a selection of y9

Year 12, 13, 11 and y10 students (French) and a selection of y9 students

 Cinema Zawya (cinema Odeon)

Monday March 7th – 8.00 am-1.30 pm

Dear Parents, Guardians,

The Zaywa cinema just released the film Dheepan, the Palme d’Or winner at this past Cannes festival. Set in France and predominantly in French, the film relates directly to the KS 4-5 French courses (immigration) and references Montesquieu’s Lettres Persanes. Therefore it will be of special interest to our students. The screening should be followed by a post-screening debate with a cinema and education expert. As for y9 and y10 students, this trip is both an incentive and a reward for our high achievers future specialists. Afterwards, students will be expected to write an extended cinema review. This field trip is also a way for our student to get an immersion in French culture since they do not always have this chance at home.

The visit will take place on Monday March 7th at 9.30 am

The bus will leave school at 8.00 am and be back at school at 1.30 pm for the two last lessons.

Each student will need to pay 60Le (ticket + bus). They will need to bring money also for lunch as we will grab some food before going back to school.

In case of emergency the school mobile phone number is:  010 5017 846

Please complete and sign the permission slip below and return it by Monday March 7th at the latest.

Yours faithfully

HIGHEST NUMBER OF AWARDS FOR ALSSONIANS

El Alsson School had the honour of attending the annual High Achiever Awards ceremony held by the British Council Egypt and Pearson Edexcel, while commemorating 25 years for Edexcel in Egypt. The celebration took place on Wednesday, 17 February at the British Embassy in Cairo. Co-hosted by John Casson, British Ambassador to Egypt, Jeff Streeter, Director of British Council in Egypt, and Ahmed Ismail, Director Pearson Egypt, the ceremony celebrated the academic achievements of secondary school learners in the 2015 Edexcel IGCSE exams.

Mr Phil and Miss Julie joined parents and students at the event and were extremely proud. El Alsson achieved the highest number of awards out of all the schools in Egypt – an achievement that was publicly recognized on stage in front of the Ambassador and the invited audience. It was especially pleasing to hear parents from other schools commenting on what a good school El Alsson must be!

Nada Abdelhalim and Zeina Bashnfr raised the bar to achieve the Highest International Marks in Art and Design and French. That means they got the highest marks in the world for these Edexcel International exams! Not only that, but they also managed to awe us by achieving the Highest marks in Egypt in English Literature and History. Mira Shaker and Mariam Saleh shared the Highest Marks in Egypt with Nada and Zeina in Art and Design and French. The Highest Mark in Egypt for Business Studies was achieved by Omar Barakat. Sherin Abdel Ghaffar achieved the Highest Mark in Egypt in Chemistry. Hussein Abdel Latif achieved the Highest Mark in Egypt in Further Mathematics (Advanced Level), and Hussein El Ghazaly also achieved the Highest Mark in Egypt in Advanced GCE Mathematics. Physics and Statistics were not left out, our own Aly Shafik and Mostafa Mortada achieved the Highest Mark in Egypt in those subjects. Moreover, Omar Hamouda awed us by his Highest Mark in Egypt in Italian So, all in all, top in Egypt or top in the world in no less than 11 subjects! These achievements would not have happened if it weren’t for the finest students themselves, the dedicated teachers who believed in them and the full support they receive from their parents. It is with great pride that we congratulate them and wish them a bright future ahead of them. Looking forward to more of the same next year!

Miss Mona will be accompanying the students and a bus will be taking them from school. A Presentation given to Alssonians by TNR

Yesterday, our senior British students had a presentation given to them by TNR (Maadi Trap Neuter, Return). It was a great chance for our students to become aware of the TNR and why they exist. Basically, they are focusing in areas in Maadi where there is an increasing population of stray cats and dogs. They trap the animal, take it to a vet, neuter it and vaccinate it and then return it to the same area it was before. To make sure that the cat or dog is not re-taken again for the same procedure, they cut the tip of one of their ears. By doing that, it is known now that this cat or dog has been vaccinated and neutered.

This method is used internationally to help control the populations of street animals especially in large cities and has proven very effective. It is also a much more humane method of population control than poisoning or shooting as so often happens.

Maadi TNR hope that by sharing how their initiative works other areas in Cairo might want to start something similar themselves.

Thank you to Freya and Sonia for such an informative presentation and an inspirational idea.

Celebrating 11 Outstanding Alssonians in their GCSE’s

El Alsson School is ever so proud of its students…GCSE Results Say It All!

Yesterday, Monday February 1st was a day of celebration. During the early morning senior side assembly, students were surprised by Mrs. Soumaya Amr and Mr. Colin Rogers attending the assembly for a very special celebration. It was for 11 outstanding Alssonians who achieved superb results achieving Highest Marks in Egypt and Highest International Marks in last year’s Edexcel GCSE and A-Level exams. This was motivational for all students to see how well Alssonians can do, to see what we are made of. This was also a special thank you to El Alsson’s staff and teachers for the continued dedication to the students.

Looking at genius Hussein Abdel Latif, he achieved the Highest Mark in Egypt in Further Mathematics (Advanced Level), another genius Huseein El Ghazaly also achieved the Highest Mark in Egypt in Advanced GCE Mathematics.

Physics and Statistics were not left out, our own Aly Shafik and Mostafa Mortada achieved the Highest Mark in Egypt in those subjects. Moreover, Omar Hamouda awed us by his Highest Mark in Egypt in Italian 🙂

So, all in all, top in Egypt or top in the world in no less than 11 subjects! These achievements would not have happened if it weren’t for the finest students themselves, the dedicated teachers who believed in them and the full support they receive from their parents. It is with great pride that we congratulate them and wish them a bright future ahead of them. Well Done!
