El Alsson American Elementary School offers an English language based American program, which provides a firm foundation in the core curriculum areas of Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies via the Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, and the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Social Studies. The core curriculum is administered using American books and resources, and is closely aligned to effect a smooth transition into the American Middle School. The American Elementary School continually monitors student progress, adjusts teaching strategies and modifies curriculum in order for all students to achieve success. Reading is an integral part of success in any language or curriculum. We are committed to encourage our students to develop and instill in them a love of reading, which will continue throughout their years at El Alsson and beyond. The American Elementary School provides each child with the tools required to reach their academic potential and be happy, considerate members of our learning community.
During their time in the Elementary School students study the following subjects: Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Math, SEL (Social Emotional Learning), Art, Music, Drama, Library, Physical Education, Computer Science, Arabic, Religion (Islam or Christianity), and National Social Studies.
The American school is fully accredited through NCA-CASI, SACS-CASI, and NWAC accreditation divisions of Cognia. The school is also a member of the Council of International Schools
Assessment & Reporting
Class teachers carefully track the individual progress of the children, both social and academic. Praise of success and encouragement to keep trying are essential tools. Students are encouraged to think for themselves and become independent learners. Students are assessed through continuous assessment (assessment for learning) against the benchmarks set out in our curriculum and against American standards.
Reports are issued two times a year to inform parents of their child’s ongoing progress. Parents are also encouraged to attend our bi – annual parent – teacher meeting days and are welcome to make appointments to discuss their child’s progress throughout the year. We value our strong teacher – parent relationship.
