Celebrating IGCSE and GCSE Results

El Alsson British International School students and staff are again celebrating an outstanding set of examination results, this time for this year’s IGCSE and GCSE students. Following on from the AS and A2 successes last week, students have raised the bar at IGCSE and GCSE. These results are a testament to the hard-work, dedication and perseverance of the students who worked tirelessly over the past two years with the support of their teachers, parents and senior leaders in school.

Two thirds of students achieved at least 3 A*-A or 9-7 grades with just under half of all grades achieved being A*-A or 9-7. A quarter of all grades were the very highest grades possible, either A* or 8 or 9 respectively. 82% of students achieved the Egyptian Ministry of Education requirements for university entry by achieving at least 8 GCSE grades at A*-C or 9-4.

When comparing these results with schools in the UK and their performance last year, students as a cohort were 19 points better and these results would place El Alsson in the top 3% of all schools in the UK and the top 4% of independent schools.

Headteacher, Mr Matt Topliss commented:

“I am extremely proud of the achievements of our IGCSE/GCSE students, along with the guidance and support given to them by our exceptional staff. I am also very grateful for the continued support of our parents as they play a vital role in the success of their children. As it is reported that these examinations are becoming increasingly more difficult and with a new grading structure in some subjects, it is commendable that El Alsson students have produced this remarkable set of results.”

As always, we are delighted with the performance of all our students and they should each be proud of what they have accomplished. A few highlights from Year 11 include:

Laila Abdelhalim: 5A*, 2A, 1B,

Salma Delawar: 6A*, 2A, 1C,

Farida ElMesseiry: 7A*, 1A, 1B

Youssef ElSherif: 7A*, 1B

Hassan Issa: 4A*, 2A, 3B

Rahma Mohamed: 5A*, 3A, 1C

Farah Mortada: 6A*, 2A, 1B,

Abdallah Soliman: 4A*, 4B, 1C

The rigours of the IGCSE/GCSE courses and it being their first experience of internationally renowned qualifications can mean that some students have not achieved as well as they might have hoped. We are very keen to support any student that needs help assessing their next steps and they must not hesitate to get in touch with the school over the coming days and weeks if they need to. More detailed subject results and analysis will be available from next week.

Well done to all our students!
