Biology Field Trip 2014: Betws-y-coed

This year the biology department took 9 year13 students on a Biology Field Trip to Betws-y-coed, Wales.  This was a ground breaking trip for El Alsson, never before has an international trip been organized in which the students were so involved in carrying out their own Scientific investigation and discovery.  This trip was pioneering, and we were pioneers.  We made sure we embraced this opportunity to the fullest.

For 6 days we counted animal populations, waded in streams, crossed sand dunes, tasted seaweed and climb mountains.  All with a smile on our face and a bounce in our step.  The trip was essentially to provide an opportunity to carry out investigations for coursework but this trip was so much more than that.  This was an opportunity to see outside of the large urban areas of the cities, an opportunity to see the wild countryside and do things we would never have even know we could do.  Oh, and we did some work too, a lot of work, but it didn’t feel like work because we were enjoying ourselves so much.  This was the best organized, had the best group spirit, the most educational relevance, the most new experiences of any trip we have been on in our time at El Alsson.

If we were asked to speak to the year below we would say this…

“If you go on 1 trip this year make sure you go on the Biology field trip.  It is an experience you will remember for the rest of your life.  It is different from any trip you will have been on and Alsson and be prepared for that, but it is worth it. A million times over.”
